/sbin/ifconfig -a | grep HWaddr | awk '{print $5}'

Provided linux is recognizing the card, that will provide the solution.
ifconfig stands for interface(i think) config, and is how you set up
network devices.

However, if linux has not recognized the card, you will need to install
a module for the card. You do this with modprobe [modulename]. It's kind
of odd that the card doesn't say what it is. On all the 3com cards I've seen
Normally the model number is written somewhere along teh top of the card
int a darker green.

If you have a PCI card, this shouldn't be too hard. There's a command,
/sbin/lspci, which will give you a list of what's in each pci slot in
your system, for instance here I get

:01:08.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporartion 3c905 100BaseTX [Boomerang]

you can find a list of 3Com drivers with
ls /lib/modules/`uname -r`/net/3*

and then modprobe the right one to make it work.
If it's ISA, write back and I'll think more.
