I've just noticed that "who" and "w" are playing up. They aren't
deleting the entries out of utmp when a user logs out.

The command "who" lists all users that have logged in so I get output
like...

,----[ output from "who" ]
| steve tty1 Dec 29 22:30
| steve tty2 Dec 29 22:30
| steve tty1 Dec 29 22:31
| steve tty24 Dec 29 22:31
| steve tty24 Dec 29 22:31
`----

While "w" gives this...

,----[ output from "w" ]
| 10:47pm up 29 days, 3:07, 5 users, load average: 0.50, 0.57, 0.46
| USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT
| steve tty1 - 10:31pm 15:41 0.26s 0.26s bash
| steve tty24 - 10:31pm 14:56 2:12 0.06s startx
`----

At the moment there are 2 users logged in (steve on tty1 & tty24). So
you can see that there is definitely something wrong here. Has anyone
got any ideas?

Also, I found a binary in /usr/sbin called "utmpd" and so far I can't
find any docs about it. Anyone know what this animal does? Does it
have anything to do with my problem?
