I use fetchmail to get mail from several e mail addresses ....
make a file called /home/steve/.fetchmailrc
put something like this in it ...
# fetchmail control file
defaults
fetchall
poll pop3.ukonline.co.uk
proto pop3
user steve1
pass xxxxx is steve here
poll mail.freenet.uk.com
proto POP3
user steve2
pass xxxxx is steve here
where xxxx is your POP password.
you have to change the permissions of this file
chmod 710 .fetchmailrc
then to get your mail type
fetchmail -f /home/steve/.fetchmailrc
to see what's happening type
fetchmail -f /home/steve/.fetchmailrc -v
to run it as a daemon every 15 minutes (900s), t is a timeout value
fetchmail -f /home/steve/.fetchmailrc -d900 -t60
make sure you've got the user bit right the first time, I got it wrong one
and never quite worked out where my mails went - sendmail got all confused.
Oh, then point Netscape at you Linux box to get the mails. You'll need
telnet enabled and IMAP rpms (I think) to be able to do this.
To see it it's already set up type
telnet steveslinuxbox 110
and see if you get
OK, POP3 server ready ...
"quit" gets you out. It's worth reading about POP3 if you're playing with mail
Any help?
