Hi All -

I have a rather annoying problem with my internet connection on my
RedHat6.1 machine.

The connections dials and connects fine. I can then happily use Netscape
(4.6 I think - whatever ships with RH6.1) - but not all the time. On
some websites, it gets part-way through downloading the page, then
simply says "stalled". I also often get this same problem when
downloading files using Netscape.

However, if I try to get the same file using a command line ftp - it
usually proceeds without any problem. Also, the websites that stall,
download without problem in Windoze.

I have also tried using Lynx. It will also often "hang" (stall?),
however, I'm not sure if it just doesn't know what to do with graphics
and the like.

Initially I was noticing a "BSD-Compress" or somthing (sorry - I'm not
at my machine now) starting as part of the PPP startup. I disabled this
and it did seem (?!) to improve matters somewhat - but not completely
... This is one of my problems - there doesn't seem to be any
predicatability to this behaviour.

To me, all this says it's not my ISP or the remote sites (since Windoze
works). It may be a problem with Netscape , except that Lynx also hangs
sometimes (for other reasons?). If it's not that, then it's a problem
with my PPP configuration.

Sorry to not provide any specifics, but it does seem to be an
intermittent thing and I don't know what would be useful! Any ideas or
suggestions of things to try would be most appreciated! As you can
surely imagine - it's _most_ annoying to have to reboot into Windoze
just to access a single website!!!! (Actually, it's most annoying at any
time for any reason :) )

TIA. Cheers,
Mike
