The term refers to a Linux host that functions as a firewall/router,
performing Network Address Translation (NAT) ... that is, translating
private, non-routable IP addresses (such as 192.168.1.0/24) to a single
routable address. The mechanism for doing NAT in Linux is called IP
Masquerading -- hence "masq server". There is a Masquerading HowTo if you
want to read about the details.
