I was lucky enough to inherit our old server when we finally upgraded our equipment @
work. I want to install RH 6.0 (I have the boxed set) on this beast so I can play with
& learn Linux with minimum investment.
The server specs are:
Model: Compaq Proliant 1000
Processor: Pentium 60
RAM: 48 meg
Hard drive 1: SCSI 1.05 G
Hard drive 2: SCSI 1.05 G
Hard drive 3: SCSI 2.10 G
CD-ROM: SCSI Compaq ID5 (Compaq CDROM CR-503BCQ, rev 1.1c)
Modem: none
Slot #8: 32-bit Fast SCSI-2 Controller
Slot #5: Compaq Netflex-2 ENET-TR
Embedded: Compaq integrated 32-bit Fast-SCSI-2 controller
I have additional information on these devices if needed because I wanted to learn all
I could before starting the install. I had a problem getting the CD-ROM to work in DOS
because the driver had been deleted but I was able to install another driver and the
CD-ROM does now work in DOS.
Now I started the install using the RH 6.0 boot disk. When I got to the part where hte
setup asked for the CD-ROM type I answered SCSI. It then asked for if there was a SCSI
controller and I answered yes. It then presented a list of controllers. I selected
thse controllers 1 at a time and selected "Autoprobe". None of the controllers could
be identified and this is where I am stuck. (There was only 1 Compaq controller listed
and I think it's newer than what I have).
I would appreciate any help in getting the CD-ROM to work so I can install RH 6.0 from
the CD-ROM. I suspect that there must be a way to manually configure the CD-ROM but I
haven't a clue how to do it.
Also since there is no modem in this monster I cannot install Linux from a ftp site.
Thanks in advance.
