I dont know how long you have been on this list or if you even read all the
mail on this list, however this very problem has been discuessed many many
times and only last week was it redisscussed.

I would imagen the book is well out of date and possably makes no mention
of loading any other module than "lp".

I take it you are using the default kernel installed by Redhat-6.1.
If the following is not in /etc/modules.conf or /etc/conf.modules
then edit them in.

alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias char-major-6 lp

Now providing the printer is online and kerneld or kmod is running then the
following should work;

cat filename > /dev/lp0

If not do;
modprobe lp
Now cat a file again to try.
