Put "x0" into your init-string (without the quotes :-).
That will instruct your modem not to wait for a dial tone. You can also try
x3 down to x1. The best is x3 (gives you error messages like BUSY), if it
does not solve your problem go down to x0. That will definitely work.
Bye,
David.

Onderwerp: RH 5.2 : no dialtone error message
Hi all,
Thanks very much for the response to my first question to this list a few
days back. My problem was solved. I have another problem. When i try to dial
any number thru minicom, I get the error message that no dial tone is
present. In windows, you have this option in dial up networking where u can
ask the app to not wait for a dial tone. I live in india and so i dunno
whether the lines here are any different from those in the US or anywhere
else. In any case can anyone help me how to tell minicom not to wait for
the dialtone before dialling? I have a cyrix 333 MII with 32 megs ram and RH
5.2 running on a 700MB partition and 64 megs swap space. I have a 33.6 kbps
GVC voice fax modem. I hope that info will suffice.
Thanks in advance for the patience.
Ramki
