Greetings:

I am hoping that someone out there can help me with two small problems
that I am having. First, let me tell you that I am running kde/gnome on
best-linux 5.3 (kernel 2.2.13-20.)

1. I want to connect to the internet.

I called my isp (which doesn't support linux) and found out that I use PAP
authentication. I am using kppp to dialup, and I have set all of the
options to the correct parameters. The problem that I now face is that
after pppd starts, it eventually closes giving the following logfile:

Jan 20 17:41:54 best-linux pppd[1547]: pppd 2.3.10 started by root, uid 0
Jan 20 17:41:54 best-linux pppd[1547]: Using interface ppp0
Jan 20 17:41:54 best-linux pppd[1547]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS1
Jan 20 17:42:01 best-linux pppd[1547]: Remote message: upap: authenticated
Jan 20 17:42:52 best-linux pppd[1547]: IPCP: timeout sending
Config-Requests
Jan 20 17:42:53 best-linux pppd[1547]: Connection terminated.
Jan 20 17:42:53 best-linux pppd[1547]: Exit.

What is IPCP? I am not sure how to handle this (I guess I didn't set up
all the correct parameters after all.)

2. Being that best-linux is only in beta right now (its awesome, imho...
better than Redhat or mandrake --both of which best-linux is based off of.)
I installed the source code for 2.2.13-7, but when I went to run lilo I
discovered that best-linux uses GRUB instead of lilo ( a nice feature, but
a little daunting.) I have never even heard of GRUB before, and I could
not find much documentation on it. Has anyone ever used this?? How do I
set up a boot record? The man page and the program's help has only
confused me.

Any help is appreciated in advance. Feel free to email me directly if you
do not want to post to the list ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
