To get round this problem you have a couple of options,
1)
Place the card in a DOS or Windows machine and run its software setting
program, i have no idea what it is called, there will be one for it
somewhere.
2)
Use ispPnP tools under linux to try and change the software settings.
IRQ's 2 5 7 could be used or even 3 and 4 if you dont use comm ports for
anything.
After setting the card to a singel digit irq then the module command would
be;
modprobe ne io=0x280
There should be no need to tell modprobe about the IRQ but it is a modprobe
option.
