Subject: Re: Best Multi OS Partition Configuration

Did you do a complete format before you started?

When I got the machine from the OEM, it had some stripped down version
of Win98, just command.com and a few other files (no Windows directory).
The hard drive was little more than a boot disk, the OEM probably used
these files for 'burn-in'. It would show the Windows 98 logo at boot-up,
then dropped to a C:\ prompt. Anyhow, I used a Win95 boot floppy to
delete the original partition, then used modified OS/2 Installation
diskettes (modified with files from IDEDASD.EXE)to create & format new
partitions.

When did fdisk report the corruption first?

OS/2's fdisk first reported the corruption after I installed Corel
Linux. After installing OS/2, fdisk and everything else was working
normally. Linux and Partition Magic 5 did not report any errors, only
OS/2's fdisk. I had wondered if OS/2 does not recognize some code that
Linux used while partitioning, like Win95/98 does not recognize extended
attributes (I realize we're talking apples and oranges here, but I hope
you can see the analogy).

Was W9x on the machine and you had to wipe it off before you started?
See above.
