I got mine working by reading the article at www.linuxnewbie.org. It's
about a page long, and the procedure takes about 15 minutes. I would
suggest skipping the 'make install' step and follow the article to
completion. My card didn't work after 'make install'. I had to go back and
finish the procedure, but it worked flawlessly.

Its not so much the name of the card but what chipset it uses.
One of the most common Creative labs soundblasters at this minute is the
AWE PCI64 which uses the es1371 driver.
I suggest you check /usr/doc/HOWTO/Sound-HOWTO
Note the above is from Redhat,
Slackware is;
/usr/doc/Linux-HOWTOs/Sound-HOWTO
Take a look into /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound also, there are files
for most sound cards there.
