i tried to compile the 2.2.9 kernel on a computer having this configuration:
mb : ACorp-5Ali61 : 3PCI, 3ISA, Chipset ALI M1543C(UDMA66)
proc : AMD K6-2 400 MHz
mem : 32M DIMM
hdd : WDC AC28400R 8.4G , ATA DISK drive, UDMA 66
video : AGP S3 Trio 3D/2X
net : NE2000 PCI
i only get to make bzImage point where at some point in the process i get :
"gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11"
so i said this might be a hardware problem.
when i put the hdd in another computer (Pentium 133, Intel mb, 32M)
the kernel compiles just fine.
another problem (assuming that i can compile the kernel) is with IDE support
for ALI M1543 chipset. in 2.2.9 version that i have, it can have support
(buit-in) for ALI M14XX. does anybody know if there are some new versions
that support M15XX or can i use M14XX suport for M15XX chipset
stie cineva daca exista un kernel cu suport pentru ALI M15XX sau
daca poate fi folosit cel existent (ALI M14XX)
my last question : what is the difference between a NEW feature
and a EXPERIMENTAL one in kernel.
