Hello,

I can not get printing to work. :-(

I have Mandrake Linux 2.2.13-5mkd

BIOS: outboard parallel port: 378/IRQ7
        outboard parallel mode: EPP/SPP
        EPP Type : EPP 1.9

Here's what I did:

  - login to kde as root
  - select a Terminal Emulation
  - printtool
get the "RedHat Linux Print System Manager" box
           - select Add
get the "Add a Printer Entry" box
           - select Local Printer radio button and enter OK
         get "Auto-detection foud the following:
                  /dev/lp0 : Not detected
                  /dev/lp1 : Not detected
                  /dev/lp2 : Not detected

Other:

   - lsmod output includes
         parport_probe 3492 2 (uninitilized)
         parport_pc 5940 1 (autoclean)
         lp 4988 1 (uninitialized)
         parport 7580 1 (autoclean) [parport_probe
parport_pc lp]

   - I was able to set lp0 up with printtool yesterday and printed with:
echo "hi world" > /dev/lp0 and then
          lpr /etc/printcap

   - Stopped working when I put the printer on an A-B switch to share
with the window machine and rebooted.

   - The printer (a HP LaserJet 4L) is now directly hooked up to the
Linux machine.

A solution would be great. But some direction as to what to try would
be much appriciated.

Thanks,

  Jim Kobe
