OK. It sounds like you've fsck'd your system to death. Two things:
1. If you can run fsck, you should also be able to look at /etc/fstab . Its
entries will remind you of how your disk partitions are used in the
filesystem (and tell you if hda8 is swap).
2. What errors are you NOW getting on booting? Has all this fsck'ing had NO
effect on the boottime errors?
