I don't have my test host running tonight, so this is from memory ... I
can't check it for awhile.

The 3C589 card uses a NIC module that is not part of the standard kernel
tree (I think 3c589.o). The Ethernet HowTo (find it at www.linux.org) has a
link to get it somewhere, probably at Don Becker's sire. You need to add it
yourself to a RH distribution.

tomsrtbt, however, does include the needed module ... but does not autoprobe
for it. Probably "insmod 3c589.o" will work ... if you try it, please let us
know if it works or not.

You are going to find most Red Hat install choices tight in 500 megs. They
will fit, but they won't leave you much space for your own work.
Unfortunately, 500 megs is in the "small" niche these days ... I don't know
of any full-size distributions that really accommodate drives under a gig
well. Your best bets are probably Debian or Slackware, though.

Sorry, but I have no suggestion for a vi reference.
