Very likely. I have boards with two different pin arrangements that I know
of, and naturally their ribbon-cable connectors can't be interchanged.

You shouldn't; PS/2 is well supported in Linux. I don't know what PS/2 cards
cost, but if you're spending the money on one, you might want to see if a
new multiport (s/p/g/ide/fdd) card is cheaper.
