The February 2000 issue of Linux Magazine had a review of eight
distributions: Caldera OpenLinux 2.3, Corel Linux, Debian GNU/Linux,
Linux Mandrake 6.1, Red 6.1, Slackware 7.0, Suse 6.3, and TurboLinux
Workstation 4.0. They included "pros" and "cons" of each distribution,
and dedicated a half-page or so to each, and a little side-by-side
comparison of all the distributions.

Ultimately, it will depend on what kind of needs you have. For example,
I might run Red Hat on a workstation, but for any server of mine, it's
Debian all the way! :)

If you can't find the magazine in print, you may be able to find out
if the article is on their web site. I haven't checked it out, so I
don't know. The URL is http://www.linux-mag.com/.
