It depends (I'm starting to think I need to assign that phrase to a macro key).

First thing: try adding it, then reboot, then use "free" to see if the
system is using the memory. It should -- up-to-date kernels know the right
way to detect system memory size (older kernels -- 2.0.30 and earlier --
would miss memory over 64 megs on some motherboards).

Alas, as observed by anonymous, "The problem with foolproof systems is that
fools are so ingenious." I've started encountering the 64 meg problem again,
with *some* newer m'bds and kernel 2.2.x. The fix is the same one those of
us with long (albeit imperfect - please check the example below) memories
recall: add to the lilo.conf block for that kernel the line --

        append="mem=96M"

or whatever the right number is for you.
