You *probably* have your X server set up to use several possible
resolutions, and the one it starts in isn't the largest. It's a "fearure" of
X that is, for example, it can run in 640*480 or 1024*768, the 640*480 mode
will be a "window" into a larger, 1024*768 virtual screen.
If my guess is right, you have two possible fixes.
1. Make the display match the virtual window size. You do this either by
changing the order of the choices, so the largest one is listed first (in
your XF86config file - it's location varies by distribution and I don't
recall where RH keeps it), or by pressing the CTRL-ALT-+ chord after X
starts to switch among the available resolutions.
2. Make the virtual window match the display.You do this by removing the
other resolution choices from XF86config.
FOr working on XF86config, it is a text file that you *can* edit directly,
but it is easy to make mistakes, especially if youy are a beginner. A safer
way is to use the executable program xf86config .
