as long as you hav a cdrom drive. with a 386 you wont be able to boot from
it and yes, you will have to install from floppy, but
I think in your case getting hold of an old cdrom ( if you dont have one )
and using this method of installation would be worthwhile.
It installs the "files" on your hd as symbolic links to the cd, so only the
files you need changed need actually be "local".
But even if you dont do this, slackware can do a very "minimalistic" install
if required.
