"info" is GNU's preferred way of documenting things.  Usually, if a
command or program has both an info page and a man page, the info page
will be more up to date.  For more info on info type... 

info info

And don't let anyone try and tell you that info is evil, or hard to
use and navigate.  Once you get the hang of it, info is great.  You
can even view your man pages with the info reader.

man whatis
