Begin the file name with a dot.
Yes you can display it, if you specify "-a" to the ls command, but
you could also display all the hidden files on DOS as well. 4DOS, a
popular replacement command interpreter for DOS, even had a switch to
the dir command that would display hidden and system files (just like
the -a command and leading dot files).
