I've wondered if I was the only one who thought so; I find man to be just
fine for the documentation.  

If anyone cares, the GNOME help browser  includes support for browsing
info files.  Unfortunately, it won't print.  But you can also use
info2html for converting them to HTML files (obviously).  You can find
info2html on Freshmeat if it's not already installed.
