My personal opinion is Slackware is easier to configure, and provides better
documentation. Also installing and removing the .tgz packages is more user
friendly (using pkgtool), but RH has more packages out there that can be
installed using rpm, and you cannot always get those rpms converted to .tgz
and installed in slackware (maybe there has been some improvements there by
now).

I ran Slackware for 4 years before I switched to RH, and the only reason I
switched was because my buisness standardized on RH.

The distros are different, Slackware is based on BSD, while RH is more SUN
like (is it sysV?), so I can't always find what I want in the dirs I'm used to
under Slackware, but I'm getting used to it.

Trying both is probably good advice, but the differances are not really
apperent until you spend some time with each system, and it may take several
weeks on one distro or another to get a feel for which is better suited to
your needs, of course after working on one system for that long it is unlikely
you will ever get around to trying the other.
