I normally send every reply I make both to the list and to the individual
who posted the question. I do this for the following reasons:
A. I send it directly to the poster because I assume
he or she wants the answer quickly, and the
list is often slow to redistribute postings.
B. I send it to the list because I believe the list
is a collaborative effort on the part of all
members to improve our shared understanding of
Linux and its uses, not a place for private,
unpaid tech support.
These are my personal opinions only. There's no "rule" about this. Others on
the list may choose to reply only personally (I wouldn't know about them,
sort of by definition) or only to the list (I think I notice such responses
on the list). Since everyone who answers questions, in any of these ways, is
volunteering to offer help, I think we'd all do well to respect the
responder's preferences in this matter, whichever way they might go.
But that's why your question about "every answer to every question" has no
simple answer. Still, if you are not seeing any postings except responses to
your own questions, there is probably a problem with your own subscription.
vger sometimes drops people from lists for no apparent reason; you might
want to try rebubscribing.
