If you want to read a CDROM with it: Yes.
(ie. mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdwriter /mount/point)
If you want to write CDR(W)'s with it: No. See the CD Writing HOWTO at
www.linuxdoc.org for that.
If you want to use packet-writing on CDRW's, there is a patch out there
(either against 2.2.x or 2.3.x) that lets you do this (provided you like
to play with pre-alpha software).
