I have been trying all day yesterday to connect to the network at my university, via serial port ttyS0. I tried to use minicom and access through serial port ttyS0 what I get when I do that is not a normal modem response but lines of text that look like this }$@#}%}&:Q.}'}'}"}(}"%^T~~^?}#@!}!}!} }8} I think that means that I have some sort of connection, because these lines stop when I unplug the cable. Next I tried to connect via ppp0, I edited the chat script to the point where the comp expects a 'CONNECT' here is the output of the log messages file: Mar 30 19:57:54 local pppd[1690]: pppd 2.3.8 started by root, uid 0 Mar 30 19:57:55 local chat[1691]: abort on (BUSY) Mar 30 19:57:55 local chat[1691]: abort on (ERROR) Mar 30 19:57:55 local chat[1691]: abort on (NO CARRIER) Mar 30 19:57:55 local chat[1691]: abort on (NO DIALTONE) Mar 30 19:57:55 local chat[1691]: abort on (Invalid Login) Mar 30 19:57:55 local chat[1691]: abort on (Login incorrect) Mar 30 19:57:55 local chat[1691]: send (ATZ^M) Mar 30 19:57:55 local chat[1691]: send (ATDT1^M) Mar 30 19:57:55 local chat[1691]: expect (CONNECT) Mar 30 19:58:08 local chat[1691]: ~^?}#@!}!}!} }8}"}&} } } } }#}$@#}%}&:Q.}'}'}"}(}"%^T~~^?}#@!}!}!} }8}"}&} } } } }# Mar 30 19:58:14 local chat[1691]: }$@#}%}&:Q.}'}'}"}(}"%^T~~^?}#@!}!}!} }8}"}&} } } } }#}$@#}%}&:Q.}'}'}"}(}"%^T~~^?}# Mar 30 19:58:17 local chat[1691]: @!}!}!} }8}"}&} } } } }#}$@#}%}&:Q.}'}'}"}(}"%^T~~^?}#@!}!}!} }8}"}&} } } } }#}$@# Mar 30 19:58:23 local chat[1691]: }%}&:Q.}'}'}"}(}"%^T~~^?}#@!}!}!} }8}"}&} } } } }#}$@#}%}&:Q.}'}'}"}(}"%^T~~^?}#@!}!
