tar and gzip come to mind.
Having said that i feel i must explain what i mean.
I take it you simply save the mail to a folder under your mailer's
directory structure.
You could create a small shell script which would;
1) copy messages to another directory,
2) edit out all the headers automaticly,
edit out signature's etc..
3) compress the archive to save space,
4) have a command line option for reading the stuff without
uncompressing using 'zless'.
Or simply forward each and every message to another machine which has more
space available for you.
