There are many things it "could" be, far too many to try to run down in an
e-mail message. Much better would be for you to describe the problem in
enough detail that I, or someone else here, can have a real shot at spotting
the error.
What procedure do you follow to "swap the dial ups over"? Does it really
involve having 2 PPP devices open (the "ppp0 and ppp1" from your Subject:
line)?
What are the basics of your connectivity, as reported by "ifconfig -a" and
"route -n" before and after the problems start?
What do your pppd options files, or command-line options, look like?
What does "totally forget to IP-forward" mean? What do you actually try to
do and how does it fail? (If you are only trying Samba services, as your
message seems to suggest, check if more basic services like ping and telnet
continue to work.)
When you switch ppp connections (or add the second one), do you make the
needed updates to your ipfwadm or ipchains rules?
What are the basics of your setup? What Linux distribution and version, and
what kernel version ("uname -a" usually reports the last part)?
