Good evening to All - First, I am a newbie. Had to get that disclaimer out of the way. :) I have been trying to learn Linux RH 6.1 - getting used to it more or less. This morning I attempted my first d/l and it was successful; the installation was not. I downloaded gnomeicu-92-2.i386.rpm#.rpm to the /home/myusername file. I right clicked the file name and clicked *install*. I was then met with the following error message: failed to open /var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm I went into the file manager and found the /var/lib/rpm directory and found the following: conflictindex.rpm fileindex.rpm groupindex.rpm nameindex.rpm packages.rpm providesindex.rpm requiredby.rpm triggersindex.rpm the directory shows that the *packages.rpm* is where it is supposed to be, but the install procedure I used was unable to use it. It is obvious I goofed up something and sure would appreciate some help with the installation of ICU. This is my first d/l and first attempt to install a program.
