Has anyone succeeded in getting RealPlayer version 5.00 Gold
(5.0.0.45) to work with Slackware 4.0? I get this error message when
attempting to play an .ra file:
"File compression not supported. Cannot locate the requested
RealAudio decoder. For more information, please see Error 38 at
http://www.realaudio.com/help/errors."
Perhaps this is a simple path problem?
Anyway, Error 38 tells you to upgrade to a newer version. So I
installed the non-rpm rp7_redhat6.bin (RealPlayer 7 beta for Linux) on
this Slackware 4.0 system. Realaudio's website says that RP7 requires
Redhat 6 (there must be a workaround for Slackware) and glibc 2.0.
How do you tell if you have glibc 2.0 (and where do you get it?)
When I run RealPlayer 7 I get a segmentation fault.
One aspect of installing RealPlayer 7 that confused me (and that may
be a problem with Slackware) was that it was not a .tgz file, but a
self-extracting file (rp7_redhat6.bin).
If all else fails, does anyone know how to boost the reception of an
AM radio? I can receive the station that I want to use RealPlayer
for, outside on a car radio, but inside a house the signal fades in
and out.
Thanks,
Kurt Kehler
