Hello all!

Can anyone help me to find out the answers to the following problems?:

1. Is there any difference between HPFS, older NT and the new Windows 2000
filesystems? The last one is known as NTFS 5, if I remember OK...

2. Can I mount the NTFS partition on RedHat Linux 6.1 (standard)? I want
to be able to access the Windows files from Linux, on a dual boot machine.
Without having to recompile the kernel, if possible...

When I marked the NTFS partition as "ntfs" in /etc/fstab, I got the
message "ntfs not supported by kernel" at boot time. So, I'm really
interested if there is a module available somewhere, to make the NTFS 5
partition both readable and writable.

I also noticed that partition type 7, created by Windows, is listed in
fdisk's table, as HPFS type. I'm trying to find out if there's some
support for HPFS on the net, at least, and if that support can be used
also for Windows 2000 partitions, with full data safety.

Thanks a lot,
Razvan
