Foolishly ?, maybe but many people swear by 800X600
It is defined in your XF86Config file, KDE has NOTHING to do with it.
XF86Config resides in /etc/ or /etc/X11 in most cases.

Normally by reading the README or INSTALL files which should accompany the
program itself.
