I presume from -hdd- you mean your cdrom burner located on /dev/hdd.

Oops, back to square one i think.

Normally one "burns" an iso image onto a cdrom, thats what i meant above
about hdd. now would you mind being a little bit more "clear" as to just
what you have done.

If one has an iso-image of cladera one burns the iso image onto a cdrom,
then that cdrom is "bootable" all one needs to do is to tell the BIOS of
the computer to boot from the CDROM.
You will then get the caldera install interface as it were, allowing you to
install caldera.

So it looks like you need to understand a few things here.

1) an iso image is for burning onto a CDROM.
2) bootmagic, forget it, you certanly dont need it if i am not mistaken.
3) You can install from a H/D (Hard Disk) but you will have to have about
300M to 1Gb (depending on what you want to install) free space,
and you will need to get the normall install source NOT an iso image.
4) By free space, is meant free space, not just empty space on a partition
in use by dos or what ever.
Completely undefined by any partition manager fdisk program or the
    likes.
