There are many types of linux boot disks,
rescue disk
lilo boot disk
image disk
install disk sets.
Now in principle it is possable to use all of them to get lilo reinstalled.
Its just that differnet distributions have different ways of allowing the
user to do it.
I cant remember what disto you use, so i cant be spesific.
However a few hints.
A disk which has an image on it will boot the system as if lilo was run
from the MBR, allowing you to simply type lilo after logging in as root.
A lilo boot disk basicly the same.
A resuce disk one would possably need to type at the prompt.
mount root=/dev/hda1 ro
Where /dev/hda1 is the root filesystem partition, then one could find
his/her way to reinstall lilo by means of /sbin/lilo.
To give a spesic example for slackware;
Use the install disk sets, 'bare.i' and 'color.gz' for example.
Use them in the same way you did to install slackware, up to the point of
'login'
simply type root and then mount the root file system under /mnt
You should then be able to reinstall lilo.
I am sure others will tell you more on other distro's.
