Hi,

Yes, I happen to have a domainname registered that I've had to renew
once already (I believe it's a three period). I would suggest
starting out with the website:

http://www.networksolutions.com/

They seem to have replaced InterNic as the "offical" domainname
registration entity. For one thing when I got billed for my renewal,
the bill came from them.

You can also try the command 'whois' on Linuxes and Unixes to see
if a particular domainname is already taken. E.g.:

jsteve@hckyrulz:jsteve% whois cisco.com
[rs.internic.net]

Whois Server Version 1.1

Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net
for detailed information.

   Domain Name: CISCO.COM
   Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
   Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
   Referral URL: www.networksolutions.com
   Name Server: NS1.CISCO.COM
   Name Server: NS2.CISCO.COM
   Updated Date: 14-apr-2000

>>> Last update of whois database: Tue, 30 May 00 05:16:54 EDT <<<

The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU domains and
Registrars.

Cheers,
