I skipped answering this the first time because I thought the real issue
here is whether there are any problems with Athlon support, something I
don't know the answer to. But I can fill in a couple of Lawson's gaps, so
here goes.

For the scanner, you want to find out if it is supported by the SANE
package, I believe. http://panda.mostang.com/sane/ for info. (I didn't see a
GT9500 listed, only a GT5000, GT6000, and GT7000.)
