There ae any number of methods. My preferred one is:

1. Do whatever you need to partition the drive and put filesystems on it.

2. Boot the system with some convenient rescue disk. The RH rescue might do;
tomsrtbt (available at metalab, either in distributions or in system/rescue;
I forget which) will serve. Mount the old and new filesystems.

3. Use the cp command to copy each filesystem from the old to the new drive.
You'll need to do recursive copies and set the flag to preserve permissions
and ownership -- I think "cp -a /oldone /newone" will do (using real mount
points, of course).

4. Run LILO on the new drive so it will boot.

5. If you changed the filesystem structure, edit /etc/fstab to reflect the
structure on the new drive.

For details on some of these commands, you'll want to consult the man pages
for them.
