depending on the type of partition your win98 installation is using. i know
from experience that FAT16 works, but unsure of FAT32.
you could try this...
create a directory in /mnt, say /mnt/win98
then edit /etc/fstab to include a line such as:
/dev/hda1 /mnt/win98 vfat defaults 0 0
this will mount the partition hda1. navigate to /mnt/win98 and you will see
the file structure of the respective windows drive. the vfat allows for
long file name capabilities.
as far as wiping the partition that you had previously installed linux, you
should be able to do this during your linux install. just delete and then
reset the partition when this portion of the install presents itself. this
is assuming that you do not go with a 'default' install of workstation or
server.
good luck

] Greetings,
]
] I have Red Hat 6.1 installed on my machine. I installed it after I had
] installed Windows 98 and it successfully partitioned my hard drive and
] installed linux. Now I can boot to Windows 98 or Red Hat 6.1.
]
] I had my machine connected to the internet via a dedicated ppp
] connection. I got hacked. I would like to move some files to my win98
] partition. Specifically three netscape profiles, root, user1 and user2
] (this would include my "bookmarks", mail, and subfolders with saved
] mail, all this is e-mail recieved w/ Netscape Messenger). I would also
] like to move some files that I downloaded. I know how to move them as
] long as I can successfully mount my msdos partition.
]
] So my first question is: How to I mount my msdos partition?
]
] My second question is: How do I then wipe and reinstall Linux without
] deleting my existing msdos partition?
]
] Thanks in advance.
]
] Steve
