Like i said you jumped the gun, you possably missed the text written on the
screen which said you "MUST" use either fdisk or cfdisk.

I used the text.gz disk, first command after login was ls -al /dev/sd*
Nothing, no device files concerning sda.
I simply proceeded, one then gets the screen saying the above,
i did 'fdisk' even tho' my disk was already partitioned, all i did in
'fdisk' was use the "p" command, then "q"uit, then ls -al i got a full list;

So the text.gz has to have fdisk or cfdisk run first, then the files are
created from the output of fdisk.

On another note, did you burn your own cdrom, if so where did you download
the iso image.?
I got mine from ftp:/linux.tucows.com there was nothing strange about it,
no errors when i burned the cdrom and it verfied ok, however it bombs out
as soon as it starts to install the HOWTO's (cant remember the disk set
letter(s)) its the series before gnome gets installed, it gave me ;

child returned sig11
file.? not in gzip format
aborting from previous errors.

It is NOT, i repeat NOT, a memory problem on the machine(s) yes i have tryed
it on 3 different machines, thay all stop at the same place with the same
errors, now the chances of a memory error on 3 different machines at
exachtly the same place on a cdrom is, i would say about 1 million to one.

Has anyone else encured this problem, i have never had problems with my
cdburner, in fact i burned a copy of corel after slackware 7.1 and thats ok.

I will give it one more try later on this evening, this time i will do a
custom install instead of everything and leave out the HOWTO's.
