I'm having a problem with my modem that seems like it should be a simple
matter but that I can't seem to figure out.
When I initiate a dial-up session (using wvdial) as root everything is
fine, but of course I should not be doing that. But when I try to do so
from a user account I get the message "Cannot open /dev/modem: Device or
resource busy." The permissions on the modem are crwxrwxrwx, which
seems to me should be OK. What could be causing the problem?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
