So it is a different card to the card used under windows if i read you
correct.
This could mean that the modem is only allowd to communicate with one
ethernet card. When another is used the modem may simply refuse to
communicate.

The MAC address is shown here, HWaddr = MAC address.

Your ethernet card is attached so it should work ok, however i took another
look at /usr/doc/*HOWTO's*/mini/Cable-modem
Under the section for @home i nothiced the following.
With the @home service in Hampton Roads, VA, it is absolutly
neccessary to run dhcpcd-0.70 (or higher) that supports the "-h"
option to specify the hostname of your computer. Without this switch
the @home dhcpcd server will not assign addresses.
However the question still remains about the different MAC address's.

If i were you i would take a look at http://home.com
Conclustions i have made from that page are;
Your linux machine possably does not have the correct dhcp software
The HOSTNAME is possably different. see;
http://www.home.com/support/netscape/netaddress/netaddresses.html
I could find no mention of a MAC address being placed into the modem,
however i would want a "sure" answer from my ISP on this one.

Yes i have seen that in thier home-page.

This was taken before the ethernet card was attached, its of no relavance
without eth0 attached.

Ok well i think you will possably see that the answers i have given above
should help you more, if the leds flash on the modem then the modem is
refusing to talk to you, as explained above.
