Good Morning All,

i have a problem with lpr. i have a Redhat 6.1 box set up on a
predominantly windows nt network. i have a print server for windows sharing
an lpd share for an HP 4 Si.

/etc/printcap looks like this...

##PRINTTOOL3## REMOTE ljet4 300x300 letter {} LaserJet4 Default {}
lp:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
        :mx#0:\
        :sh:\
        :rm=1.1.1.1:\
        :rp=lpd-hp4:\
        :if=/var/spool/lpd/lp/filter:

the ip address '1.1.1.1' is a working address.

the problem is that i cannot seem to be able to provide a windows
authentication along with the print job. a 'cat /etc/printcap | lpr' throws
469 bytes into the queue, this can be verified with an 'lpq' command. the
lpq command also shows:

#lpq
eagle: Warning: lp is down: sending to 1.1.1.1

eagle: Warning: no daemon present
Rank Owner...
1st root...

then at the end of lpq's output it displays 'Windows NT LPD Server Printer
lpd-hp4' with an empty queue.

if anyone could please tell me what it is that i am missing in the Samba
docs to provide 'constant' NT authentication perhaps i could move forward on
this item.

thanks,

Paul Garcia
