I found a Perl script on http://www.freshmeat.net that does exactly what you
describe. It's called MRAT (Multi Router Automated Telnet). On freshmeat
select "console" and then "networking" or do a search for mrat. It's
especially designed to work with Cisco routers -- but, can be easily hacked
to work with most any equipment that supports Telnet access. I've been
using it for about a month -- great piece of work.
