Could you try whether the extensive patchset to be found at > git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brodo/pcmcia-2.6.git helps? Unfamiliar with git, it didn't give me an 'extensive patchset' but I managed to get an entire source tree from there. After compiling it gave me a kernel calling itself 2.6.33-r4. Booting this kernel with a prism card inserted ran up to the login prompt without any problem. So you seem to have found the cuprit.
