Greetings all, this has come up on the list before, but I'm looking for
a little more clarification.

Have a Dell PE 2650 running RHEL 5.4. dmidecode tells me this about
the IPMI system:

  IPMI Device Information
          Interface Type: SMIC (Server Management Interface Chip)
          Specification Version: 1.0
          I2C Slave Address: 0x10
          NV Storage Device: Not Present
          Base Address: 0x000000000000FCF4 (I/O)
          Register Spacing: Successive Byte Boundaries

After running service ipmi start:

  ipmi message handler version 39.1
  IPMI System Interface driver.
  ipmi_si: Trying SMBIOS-specified smic state machine at i/o address 0xfcf4,
slave address 0x20, irq 0
  ipmi_si: Interface detection failed
  PCI: Enabling device 0000:00:04.2 (0100 -> 0101)
  ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:04.2[C] -> GSI 27 (level, low) -> IRQ 50
  ipmi_si: Trying PCI-specified smic state machine at i/o address 0xfcf4, slave
address 0x0, irq 50
    Using irq 50
  ipmi_si: Could not enable interrupts, failed set, using polled mode.
  ipmi: Found new BMC (man_id: 0x0002a2,  prod_id: 0x0000, dev_id: 0x00)
   IPMI smic interface initialized
  ipmi device interface

Only a few ipmitool commands seem to work. I guess this is expected as
we're only implementing IPMI 1.0.

My main goal is to be able to reset the power on this machine remotely.
I assume I need to reboot and configure the BMC IP address, but can I
then use ipmitool from a remote machine to send commands to my 2650? I
don't seem to be able to use any of the ipmitool user commands so I'm
not sure how authentication would work.

Examples would be fantastic.

Thanks,
Ray
