Hi Mark,

Are you compiling a kernel just for the experience/fun, or are you trying to
solve a specific problem? As a professional Linux admin for over a decade, I
just want to share my two-pronged opinion that compiling a kernel when I first
got started was one of the most educational Linux experiences I have had, and
that I cannot fathom a reason why you'd want to use your own kernel in
production. If there's a critical bugfix, would you rather go through "make
menuconfig" (or similar) and then test it thoroughly to make sure all the
latest stuff doesn't break your apps, or just do apt-get and be done with it?
