Hi, I'm trying to run the dell firmware updates, either from the suu or
directly downloaded. I normally run ubuntu but had problems getting them to
work, so thought i'd try to run something nearer the officially supported linux
versions. However i have a problem. On both opensuse and fedora (redhat) the
updates fail with the same error.

/tmp/PE860_BIOS_LX_A05.BIN-8113-17767/spsetup.sh: line 124: source:
buildVer.sh: file not found
/tmp/PE860_BIOS_LX_A05.BIN-8113-17767spsetup.sh: line 1474: source:
PIEConfig.sh: file not found
/tmp/PE860_BIOS_LX_A05.BIN-8113-17767/spsetup.sh: line 287: $_SUPPORT_LOG_FILE:

/tmp/PE860_BIOS_LX_A05.BIN-8113-17767/spsetup.sh: line 462: $_SUPPORT_LOG_FILE:
ambiguous redirect
/tmp/PE860_BIOS_LX_A05.BIN-8113-17767/spsetup.sh: line 463: $_SUPPORT_LOG_FILE:

I've seen a similar post to this on the web, but it wasn't resolved.

The problem seems to be that the update resets the path to the system one, but
that only includes /bin and /usr/bin which means it can't find the scripts in
the current directory. This seems sensible enough to me and is consistend
across all the linux distros i've looked at so i'd expect the official redhat
and suse ones to be the same?

Is this the case, if so why do the updates run there?

Has anyone got any advice on getting these to work either under ubuntu or
fedora/opensuse.

I did download the dell driver update boot dvd, but unfortunately many of my
machines only have cd-rom drives and it won't boot from a usb stick...

any suggestions

thanks
