An interesting combination I'd like to share with you ...
We're running CentOS release 5.5 on some PE 2950s with attached MD1000
arrays. We have installed OMSA version 6.3 and this works ok.
However if we have vmware server v1 installed on such a box, then OMSA
reports no storage controllers found (command line or web interface).
Once we disable vmware server and specifically move /etc/vmware out of
the way, the controllers re-appear. The srvadmin restart certainly gets
in a pickle:
# srvadmin-services.sh restart

I'd be interested to know if this affects ESXi users too, but from here
this looks like a bug in OMSA.
